The Bay of Fundy is one of the best places in the world to go whale watching because of the variety of species of whales that spend their summers in the Bay as well as the incredible number of whales that come to the Bay. Eleven different species of whales come to the rich feeding grounds to raise their young and to prepare for their long journey southward for the winter. The waters at the mouth of the Bay of Fundy…from the ledges off Briar Island right along the Digby Neck are important feeding areas for many species of cetaceans (whales, dolphins, and porpoises), seals and a wide variety of seabirds. The most common species seen are the Minke whales, Humpback and Fin whales, harbour porpoise and Atlantic white-sided dolphins. Right whales also visit the Bay of Fundy and Sperm Whales, Sei and Blue Whales have also been spotted. Ocean Explorations “Zodiac” Whale Adventures provide a fast and exciting way to see these remarkable creatures. Tom Goodwin, the owner and operator is a marine biologist by training and provides his guests with a fun and educational tour.
Kayaking is another great way to experience more of the natural beauty of this area and Hinterland Adventures provides knowledgeable and experienced staff to guide you. Leaving Hinterland’s base, it is a leisurely paddle down the sheltered Sissiboo River, through the Village of Weymouth to the mouth of the river and then a short paddle into St. Mary’s Bay. On our kayaking tours we are governed by those Bay of Fundy tides in our area so this tour sometimes is paddled in the reverse of what is described here to work with the tide instead of against it. Stops along the way insure everyone enjoys the adventure. The opportunity to observe a pair of Bald Eagles, Kingfisher, Deer, Ducks and possibly Harbour Seals, if the food supply is plentiful, are all a part of your day.
Package includes three nights accommodations for two people in a queen room at the Harbourview Inn, a whale watch tour with Ocean Explorations and kayaking with Hinterland Adventures.... $659
